lunar wrasse

Guardian: Roshni Ramesh

Thalassoma lunare

These fish are like lions.

They live and hunt in groups. The young or females have a different pattern and when showing off, the male won’t roar but can change colour from green to blue.

They will hunt damselfish and select the young naive fish that have just arrived at the reef (if you watch you can actually see them swoop through schools of damselfish, perhaps trying to select prey or separate the school into smaller groups).
