dog faced puffer

Arothron nigropunctatus

Pufferfish are the second most poisonous creature on the planet after the Golden Poison Frog. The toxin blocks nerve function causing paralyses and cardiac arrest.

The toxin is planted in the fish’s eggs and as such it is used to attract females (a female can smell a male who has lots of toxin and will mate with him because that toxin will be placed into her eggs).

The toxin is concentrated in the liver and It is said that in death the fish will release the toxin into its own organs in a final effort to hurt its killer.
