slender lizardfish

Saurida gracilis

This is a sit and wait predator that relies on its colouration and motionlessness to conceal itself from prey. When it sniffs, it uses tiny tentacles (cilia) that are on the inside of its nostril to draw water in one side, the water then passes over rose shaped sensory tissues and flows out the other.

This species has a particularly good sense of smell and uses it for everything, prey, predators, nice smelling girlfriends.

All it has to do is wait.
