Dwarf Hawkfish

Guardian: Perry Dunne-Jones

Cirrhitichthys falco

The hawkfish defends a territory, an area where he alone can eat all the crustaceans. He will invite a female to join him and if his territory is big enough he will get two or three or four females to join him, seeing a different one each afternoon. The females have no care for fairytales, no one and only true love, they will grow in his territory letting him fight off the rivals until they are just as big as him and then they will become a male. They may then get several females to join their territory and they may even take over another male’s territory forcing him to turn back into a female.
