Hairy Mary, Anthela astata Hairy caterpillar hairs are hollow needles with a sac of venom at the base that shoots up when pressed. Apparently they can cause death in humans and some horses have had miscarriages from ingesting the caterpillars on the leaves they were eating.

These moths build a protective case by weaving material together with their silk. Females do not metamorphose into Moths but lay eggs in their own case then die to leave it for their children. This makes the case a family Heirloom passed down from generation to generation.
