‘pinstriped wrasse’ Halichoeres melanurus

The female chooses a mate according to the brightness of his colour and she is especially impressed by the yellow spot at the base of the pectoral fin.

When their are few or no predators around the females will travel to different  male territories to mate. When there are predators, however,  they will stay close to the male who controls their territory.
